“You Tube? Best marketing tool EVER!”

“If you’re in business, you absolutely, positively have to be on MySpace.”

“All the best marketers have blogs…or podcasts…or streaming video on their websites…”

Sound familiar? It seems as if a day doesn’t go by without some new technological tidbit, guaranteed to transform the business world as we know it, is making all the papers. Blogging is hot one day, passe the next. You Tube is the place you want to be — unless you don’t want to be there, of course!

How is a Nichepreneur to make any sense of it all? How do you identify what tools are best to promote your products and services and which are destined to be no more than a flash in the pan phenomenon, long on promise and short on follow-through?

More importantly, how are you going to find the time to figure it all out? When you’re busy running your business, finding the hours needed to learn about a new technology can be challenging enough — spending all of that time and energy only to discover that something is really not for you is a frustration you don’t need!

Save time and minimize frustration by adopting this six step process for approaching new technology. Followed consistently, this process will allow you to identify viable promotion opportunities, discern which ones appear to have sticking power, streamline the learning process, and adopt best practices right from day one!

Step One: Don’t Believe the Hype

Enthusiastic, cheerleading-style articles touting the latest tech tool as the solution to all of your marketing challenges are fun to read — but they seldom provide enough information to make a solid business decision!

Put yourself on a short rein, and don’t let enthusiasm for the flavor-of-the-week be your only guide. Do your research. Discover what demographics are adopting the technology being touted: the audience for Twitter-powered microblogs is different than the crowd downloading podcasts onto their cell phones.

Longevity is definitely a relative term in this environment: internet trends move at the speed of light. However, longevity is key in determining when a fad has staying power: blogging has been around for years now, and has proven business applications, while other, newer tech applications have yet to prove themselves. Consider if you want to be on the cutting edge, taking the risk to try out the new tech and benefit by being an early adopter, or if you’d be more comfortable going with a known and proven platform.

Step Two: Seek Out Reputable Resources to Serve as Guides

While you’re doing your due diligence and researching this new technological tool, you’ll want to pay special attention to where your information is coming from. Not all resources are equally valuable. Look to those individuals who are consistently cited as an Expert by others: it’s a good idea to have a rule of three for this. If three disparate sources all reference the same individual or work, there’s a better than fair chance that that resource has some real value that you can benefit from.

Remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to online research, although that’s often the quickest and easiest way to find information. Check print media: if a tool is well established enough to have books devoted to it, chances are it can be used to help you promote your business effectively.

Step Three: Identify What You Want To Accomplish

Set a clear goal for yourself. This goal needs to be specific, quantifiable, and realistic. Rather than saying, “I want to be on You Tube because everybody’s there!” consider, “I will post four videos a year to You Tube, each one focused on a different segment of my area of expertise.”

Knowing what you want to do is essential. Having an end objective allows you to figure out what skills you need to concentrate on and which ones are irrelevant. For example, if you want to build your business through blogging, you can do so without ever once picking up a book on video podcasting. Instead, you can focus on learning how to write a great blog entry, how to promote your blog, and strategies to raise your blog’s visibility.

This step allows you to save time. You only have a limited amount of time to devote to this new tool, so you want to be efficient.

Step Four: Learn the Vocabulary

Make life easy for yourself! Before you start diving into the hows, whys, and how-comes of any new area of study, take an hour to familiarize yourself with the vocabulary you’re going to need. Every technology has its own language, specific to what you’re working on.

Think of this vocabulary as similar to the professional jargon you use when conversing with colleagues. It’s likely that your conversation might be unintelligible to the average listener, unless you took the time to define and explain the terminology you’re using.

Chances are you don’t have someone there to explain confusing terms or unfamiliar language to you — and if you try to forge ahead, hoping to pick up the meaning in context, you’ll find yourself frustrated and no closer to achieving your goals. It may seem like wasted time to focus on vocabulary early in the process, but language makes comprehension possible!

Step Five: Don’t Reinvent the Wheel

No matter what your goal or objective is, there’s a better than fair chance that someone else has already done it first. Look for examples that resonate with you: a blog you’d like to emulate, podcasts that inspire you, You Tube videos that have you green with envy.

Study these examples carefully. What about them ‘works’? Make a list of those things you’d like to adopt for your own message. Obviously, you don’t want to make a carbon copy of someone else’s work, but there’s nothing wrong after modeling yourself after people who have done a great job communicating their message effectively!

Step Six: Ask Questions & Embrace Expertise

Nichepreneurs are often convinced that because they’re in business for themselves, they have to do everything themselves. As a corollary to this, there’s a common misconception that one should know everything possible about running a business from day one and never need any help!

You need to put that attitude behind you! Save time, energy, and effort by asking questions! There are a number of platforms to do this online: entire web communities have sprung up for individuals who want to build a better blog, create great You Tube videos, and more. Find a community you’re comfortable with — this might require a few minutes with Google — and ask questions. This is often the quickest way to find information and, as an added bonus, start forming relationships with potential colleagues, clients, and peers.

In Conclusion

Technology is evolving at light speed. Every day there’s something new. There’s no way one person can keep up with it all, which means we have to pick and choose which tools are the best to promote our businesses. Be critical, implement this six step process consistently, and you’ll find that you can have the best of both worlds: adopting the latest, greatest tools to promote yourself without wasting a lot of time and energy!

Commercial flooring, & industrial flooring systems, communicate with color coded floor spaces

Language is no problem when color-coded floor markings make the job as simple as matching colors. Mistakes are all too easy to make but language problems compound them. Would A Tulip Chair Be As Beautiful By Any Other Name?

For millennia, chairs were dull and boring. Function repeatedly and resoundingly trumped form. Four legs, a back, and a seat were all that a chair needed to be great. There was no real creativity or artistic flair to these pieces of furniture. However, that all changed during the middle part of the last century. Suddenly, chairs became works of modern art.

The government’s regulations on energy places pressure on companies to practice energy-efficient operations and productions. This is already a major step towards developing a truly smart grid for our national electrical system.

Our country’s energy grid has been historically considered inefficient which seems to be a great burden for commerce, industry, and the consumers. Any developments in smart grid technology will help achieve its digital benefits, enabling easier exchange of information between supplier and consumer.

The best way to achieve efficiencies in energy use can be helped with demand response within the market which ensures that energy sources will be best utilized. The overall health of the economy can be affected by very high energy costs. It is about time that a system that could provide the exact amount of energy at the exact time shall be adopted by companies. This system should also have the flexibility to constrain energy using assets by priority.

A newly issued government energy regulation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission sets guidelines which would help the industry get ready for smart grid standards. Standardization should occur across the industry to enable systems and devices to be interoperable.

With these prospective developments in the future, utility companies are therefore encourages to take the necessary steps in investing for technologies which are necessary to advance the smart grid protocol. The federal government is also including stipulations for cost recovery in these areas.

In order to enhance 2-way communication between utilities and consumers, coordinate the introduction of new technologies, and provide a means by which system operators could interact with neighboring systems to aid ultimate efficiency, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission pledged to ensure security of the emerging smart grid.

[blue]Smart Grid for Energy Efficiency for the Future[/blue]

A truly smart grid will help merge traditional energy sources with alternative ones. This will be very helpful for the future of energy supply and demand as renewable sources of energy become highly important in the future.

Transportation systems and delivery systems need to be secure and strong, being able to provide an avenue for addressing crucial demand response in time. Government energy regulations are stipulated in a way that it does not interfere with individual state programs and policies. Such stand back, allowing them to implement demand response programs and advanced metering accordingly.

The federal government shall act as overseer, applying economies of scale in ensuring that utilities participate in the smart grid. The best interests of the country is the first priority in designing the smart grid program.

The proposed government legislations on greenhouse gas emissions highly scrutinize efficiency in energy use. Now is the best time to invest in technologies which help attain efficiency in operations of distribution grid. Developed countries are therefore encouraged to be the forerunners in waging battle against climate change and global warming through efficient use of energy sources and curtailing use of traditional fuels.

U.S. Renewable Energy Sector Outlook For 2009

Despite momentum in public opinion, political circles, and discussions among strategic investors, the renewables sector faces a challenging year like most sectors of the economy. While comprehensive climate change legislation may have to wait for firmer economic footing, other help may be on the way. A federal RES would create demand for renewables on a national basis. This coupled with revamped refundable tax credits could shake loose project-level investment that has been lacking in recent months.

Nurture future with renewable energy

Nurture future with renewable energy

Nurture future with Renewable Energy

Energy is the ability to do work. All the sources of energy provide us the energy we need to live our busy lives. This energy comes in different forms. For example- heat (Thermal), light (Radiant), mechanical, electrical, chemical and nuclear energy. Energy is in every thing. We use energy to do every thing we do, from making a jump shot to baking our favorite cookies, to sending astronauts into space.

There are two types of energy-

1-Stored (Potential) Energy

2-Working (kinetic) Energy

On the basis of replenishment, energy is of two types

1-Renewable Energy

These are the sources of energy that can be replenished naturally in a short period of time after being used.

2-Non-Renewable Energy

These are the sources of energy that can not be replenished in a short period of time. Non-Renewable energy sources come out of the ground as liquids, gases and solids. Right now, crude oil (Petroleum) is the only natural liquid commercial fuel. Natural gas and propane are normally gases and coal is a solid. Coal, Petroleum, natural gas and propane are all considered fossil fuel because they are formed from buried remains of plants and animals that lived millions of years ago. Uranium ore, a solid, is mined and converted to a fuel. Uranium is not a fossil fuel.

Detail explanation of renewable and non-renewable energy on the basis of timescale is given ahead.

India is speedily developing country. Now-a-days there is a conflict between various countries of the world for development. At present era, development of country is the capacity of that country to imbibe technology. Of course use of technology is directly related with consumption of energy. So availability and consumption of energy decides level of development. Here a question arises. Development should be only for today or it must be a sustainable development.

Here a need of discussion on sustainable development is being experienced.

Sustainable development was defined by Brundtland Report of the world commission on Environment and Development (United Nations, 1987, p.43) as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

The practical realization of this concept depends on the timescale to which it is applied. For sustainable development renewable energy sources must be used. At the extreme, all resources on this planet (except sunlight) are finite and can therefore be exhausted (thereby denying access to future generations, Richards, 2006). In practice, however, most non-renewable resources (metals, minerals) with the exception of fossil fuels, are not destroyed by their usage and with efficient recycling these materials can be renewed. They are only considered non-renewable in the sense that natural formation of new economic deposits of these materials occurs on timescales that greatly exceed human experience (e.g. tens of thousands to millions of years).

For most of the non-renewable materials that is being used in the present time supply has crossed the demand over the last century. New resources are continually being discovered and new technologies increase the efficiency of mineral extraction and processing. Hence in short to medium term, future generations are not being disadvantaged by our current usage. New sources and new developed technologies are available for next generations. In the longer term however, easily mined resources will be harder to find i.e. near surface and high grade resources will be depleted. This will cause price increase.  In longer term only deeper and less accessible, that is called lower grade and harder to reach, deposits will be available.

In contrast, there are many of the renewable resources that face the greatest risk of exhaustion. In the case of living resources (plants and animals), potential extinction and renewable resources depletion such as deforestation over fishing, soil degradation and river and ground water drawdown is possible. It can cause long term damage to eco systems. This damage is far in excess of that caused by extraction and use of non-renewable resources, with the exception of changes to the earth’s atmosphere from the burning of fossil fuels.

Fossil fuels are called non-renewable sources of energy. Actually fossil fuels are an exception to the effective inexhaustibility of non-renewable resources. Fossil fuels are destroyed by there use. Natural reformation of coal, oil, and natural gas from CO2 released into the atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels occurs on timescale of millions to hundreds of millions of years and so it is effectively non existence of these resources from the human perspective. But actually reformation of these sources is possible. Although new reserves of hydrocarbons continue to be found and coal is in plentiful supply, consumption of fossil fuels is increasing. So sources of these fossil fuels are being exhausted.

Of course every one will expect for sustainable development. The sources of energy that are generally being used rapidly are non-renewable sources of energy that is not able to provide sustainable development. Use of non-renewable energy sources is also providing global threat of climate change.

Climate change is already happening and represents one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats. The European Union is committed to work constructively for a global agreement to control climate change, and is leading the way by taking ambitious action of its own.

The human activities that contribute to climate change include in particular the burning of fossil fuels, agriculture and land use changes like deforestation, these cause emission of carbon dioxide, the main gas responsible for climate change as well as of other green house gases. To bring climate change to a halt, global green house gas emission must be reduced significantly.

So the only way to get sustainable development and to reduce the problem of global threat of climate change is to turn towards the renewable sources of energy.

It has been discussed that renewable and non-renewable sources are decided on the basis of timescale. The non-renewable sources are called so because these can not be replenished in a short period of time. So its too much use may deplete its sources, which can not be reformed in a short time and hence these sources may not be available for future generation. But if these sources are allowed for limited use and proper recycling of material, where it is possible, these sources may contribute to sustainable development. But we must pay attention on global threat of climate change. So the use of sources of energy responsible for climate change must be avoided. So, proper use of all renewable sources of energies is the solution of all these problems. The proper use suggests here, the use of renewable energy in such a way so that these sources are not depleted. As discussed above depletion of renewable energy is too harmful.

Various renewable sources of energy are available, for example- Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Hydro-power and Bio-Diesel etc. Bio-Diesel is also an important renewable source of energy. All the renewable sources of energy are equally important. But the detail discussion of Bio-Diesel and solar energy is being done here. The interest has been deviated towards the discussion of only these two. It is because of the visit of some research work related to these fields.

Bio-Diesel refers to a nonpetroleum based diesel fuel consisting of long chain alkyl (Methyl, Propyl or ethyl) esters made by trnasesterification of vegetable oil, animal fat (tallow), which can be used (alone or blended with conventional petrodiesel) in modified diesel engine vehicle. The trnasesterification process involves mixing vegetable oil, alcohol and sodium hydroxide. This is simple enough that many people do it at home. The reaction also produces glycerol as a product (~ 10% by weight). Bio-diesel is distinguished from the straight vegetable oil (SVO) (Some times referred to as “waste vegetable oil”"WVO”"used vegetable oil” “UVO”"Pure plant oil”"PPO”) used (alone or blended) as fuels in some converted diesel vehicles. If use of Bio-Diesel becomes practical from all angles, it will be too beneficial for society. It is the time of Diesel and petrol crisis. Easily accessible sources of diesel and petrol are decreasing and hence their rates are increasing. Dependence on only diesel and petrol shows insecure future. Transport is the base of development. Now-a-days transport is mainly based on availability of diesel and petrol. So for a safe and developed future, bio-diesel may prove a prominent base. But bio-diesel is still under research.

The next topic of interest is solar energy. Solar energy is the primary source of energy for our planet. It is radiant light and heat from sun that has been harnessed by human since ancient time. Solar energy refers primarily to the use of solar radiation for practical ends. Increased utilization of the same would result in all round benefit, both in terms of cleaner environment and monetary gain, for individual user as well as the nation. All other renewable energies other than geothermal derive their energy from the sun.

Solar power technologies provide electrical generation by means of heat engine or photovoltaic’s.

Solar energy is being used for water heating, space heating, space cooling and process heat generation.

Solar vehicles are being used.

Solar energy is being used for water treatment i.e. it is being used in solar still, solar water disinfection, solar desalination and solar power desalination unit. Not only these, various different solar devices have been developed and most of them are being used. Researches are going on various solar devices to have better use of solar energy.

Solar Cars: The Oldest Energy Around

Solar Cars: The Oldest Energy Around

With zero emissions, solar cars present a sunny solution to eco-friendly car buyers. It also makes good sense to develop a green car technology that doesn’t call for a complicated infrastructure or any type of fueling station. What could be easier than using an already existing energy source like the Sun, right? After all it was around since the beginning of the solar system, well before fossil fuel. If it were only that simple, we’d probably already have done it. In spite of universities and corporations building solar cars every year for the past 20 years for the annual Australian World Solar Challenge solar car race, we’re not quite there yet.

How do they work?

A solar car is really an electric vehicle powered by solar energy. Photovoltaic (PV) cells in the form of solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy. The process generates heat, which is converted into electrical energy and stored in an on-board battery. The battery serves the same basic purpose as a gas tank on an internal combustion car.

In spite of the great bounty of sunshine there for the taking, solar car technology is elusive. The solar electric power source needs a lot of PV cells, which are expensive, and the efficiency level of PVs is estimated to be only 10% to 15%. These are daunting challenges facing engineers, and it’s more likely a hybrid solar with another fuel source is the only viable option in the near future, yet the concept is intriguing enough for engineers inside and outside universities to take a pure solar car prototype into a more advanced development stage.

Are there any solar cars out there?

French manufacturer Venturi says their solar electric AstroLab hybrid concept car yields an improved PV cell efficiency level of 21%. It’s not exactly a family car with its 2-seat tandem cockpit configuration, but it’s one possibility. The Hungarian manufacturer Antro has designed a solar gas-electric hybrid other wise known as a tribrid scheduled for production in 2012, and Tesla Motors has an electric car that can be recharged with solar power with 2009 models available in the U.S. and Europe. These are only the first advances in solar car technology. As time goes on more and more manufacturers will be developing and incorporating some type of solar technology into preexisting propulsion systems. This will create a new sort of hybrid, disconnected from fossil fuels, yet still not fully reliant on the Sun’s energy

Perhaps with the recent high intensity photvoltaic cells designed by a company in Israel, many of the energy efficiency problems will be taken care of. It is not clear though if they can be designed for cars.

Conclusion

Solar energy and more specifically solar cars would be an amazing advancement in future car technology. They would allow for free travel and nearly unlimited accessibility. Time will tell if all the problems associated with harnessing the world’s oldest energy source can be dealt with. If the hurdles can be passed then for sure solar cars will be the wave of the future.
