From engine management to satellite navigation, cars are becoming more like computers. In fact, the trend for more advanced computer technology in Cars has been going on for some time.

In the future, Cars will use WiFi connectivity, software applications and mobile phones to turn into a vehicle for entertainment & information. You can then connect your Bluetooth-enabled mobile

phone to a car’s sound system, or passengers could use a laptop to watch television on the move after connecting to a car’s WiFi.

Surfing the web from the passenger seat will become  possible in the near future. In fact, Some Cars already include on-screen internet access, which means that connected services, from video games to local searches for restaurants, are easier.

The mobile phones that run the latest version of Google’s Android can be turned into WiFi hotspots, so  you can surf the web if they log on to one. Another recent technology enables features by simply buying an app – accessories might be installed as standard when the car is built, but only activated by purchasing an application.

Car owners will be able to unlock their car via their mobile phone. Directions can be sent straight from a computer or mobile to the car’s navigation software.  The tyre pressure information could be  known through Bluetooth. In the event of an accident, your location can also be transmitted to emergency services.

Satellite Navigation can also offer details of nearby petrol stations. There will be intelligent routing technology that will help you with the best way to reach your destination, depending on the traffic and the time of day.  And when it comes to built-in systems, the Car can turn its left-hand instrument dial into a Satellite Navigation screen as you approach junctions.

In short, there will be a convergence of technologies in a car. The future of in-car technology is connected.

Nanotechnology Unfolds Futuristic Green Cars

Automakers are constantly incorporating the most advanced technology in their lineup. This time around they are planning to use nanotechnology to come up with spectacular vehicles. Two of the most sought-after vehicles are Acura FCX 2020 Le Mans and Volkswagen Nanospyder.

Recently, automakers have unleashed their environment-friendly concept cars that are expected to be manufactured using nanotechnology. The latter is a technology of building tiny machines using functional systems at a molecular scale. According to experts, nanotechnology, in its original sense, means projected ability to assemble items from the bottom up, utilizing techniques and tools being developed these days to make complete, high performance products.

Nanotechnology works from the bottom to the inside of the machine called personal nanofactories (PNs). Using mechanochemistry, nanotechnology will facilitate control at the nanometer scale. A nanometer is one billionth of a meter. Basically, it is about the width of 3 to 4 atoms.

One of the striking future cars presented is FCX 2020 Le Mans from Acura. Said car is envisioned to be powered by advanced auto parts from the automaker. It will also be using Honda car accessories to boost its ergonomics and comfort.

Acura FCX 2020 Le Mans appears like a Batmobile. The difference is that it uses lightweight and recyclable materials. Moreover, it is equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell drivetrain that makes it an environment-friendly car. Its molecular nanotechnology made it lighter and more manageable than present day cars.

Another viable future car is Volkswagen Nanospyder. The captivating car is made up billions of spore-like nanobots. The car is inclusive of mouth, eyeballs and other Volkswagen car accessories including tiny logos.

One of the exciting features of this VW Nanospyder is the ability of its lead bots to pick up impending collisions. Aside from that, the information can be sent away to support particular sections of the car.

Analysts in the auto industry are expecting a greener car future because of nanotechnology. In fact, there have been interesting concept cars submitted in the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show’s Design Challenge. The latter is a competition designed to cover future cars that are environment-friendly. Mechanics of the competition include originality, safety, environmentalism and relevancy to Southern California’s ‘green’ lifestyle.

Over the past three decades or so, movies and television have been portraying the idea that by the year 2000 everyone would be traveling around the world via jet packs and hover cars. Well, that obviously hasn’t happened. At least not yet. Cars of the future have always been a hot topic of discussion for vehicle enthusiasts and will continue to be as they are developed and released year after year. The first couple of future cars would have to be ‘green’ cars.

’Green’ cars were introduced as a part of the ‘green’ initiative to make the Earth a better place to live in. They also cut down on the amount of pollution that is flung into the air from the exhaust fumes. ‘Green’ cars are also known as electric cars or hybrid cars. They run off of electric, a rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) or an internal combustion engine. Hybrid power isn’t used solely for vehicles. Trains, buses and some trolleys have switched to hybrid power in order to not only conserves natural resources but to also limit the amount of pollution to the atmosphere.

Hybrid cars, right now, are mainly the future of the automobile industry. On the market now is a vehicle called the smart car. The smart car is so popular that there is a waiting list over a year long to purchase one. It is called the Smart fortwo. As evidenced by its name, the car can only seat two. It is an exceptionally small compact car, it looks almost like a box, and the public can make a reservation for the car for .

The fortwo has a 5-speed transmission that can come in a manual or automatic mode. Air conditioning, power windows and alloy wheels are optional. A smart car should not be confused with what some people think it really is. A smart car, in all its fashion, is a car that helps the environment while helping drivers get to and from their daily destinations. It is also smart in the respect that the car is small enough to easily parallel park and park while driving nose-in first. The other smart car from history was KITT, David Hasselhoff’s car from “Knight Rider”, the TV show. KITT was a smart car in the sense that it could turn itself on, talk to Hasselhoff’s character and drive itself when necessary.

There are a handful of different models of the smart car besides the fortwo. There is the forfour, the roadster, the crossblade, the crosstown, the formore, and the smart ev. The smart ev is only in a trial period right now and is being planned on a launch in the United Kingdom sometime in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The United States is not the only country that employs smart cars. Japan, Taiwan, Canada and Mexico have joined the ‘Green’ movement towards providing better cars for the environment while also making them easier to drive. The smart car, with growing popularity, will gradually show up more often on the roadways.

Exactly What Are Concept Cars

For a long time now people have been fascinated by what amazing vehicles can be discovered in motor shows across the world. The vehicles that cause people to stop and take another glance are not often the cars they end up owning, but instead are cars that the builders have developed purely to astound the buyers, test reaction and feature future ideas, and of course try and make sure their name just a little more memorable then the next, these cars are called concept cars.

 

Concept cars began life during the late 1930s when Harley Earl, a General Motors designer, penned a car not for building, but purely to display how a car might be in the future, this concept car was called the Buick Y Job.

 

Harley Earl continued to design and represent such vehicles all through his career with the concept car phenomenon really catching hold in the 50s. Obviously the concept cars that Earl and other designers designed were not meant to be produced, but were simply a test in what may be achievable in a production vehicle at some point in the future.

 

Concept cars usuallynever make it to production themselves, but they regularly have features that eventually do make it to manufactured models, and sometimes a complete car will be built that has clear common areas with the concept car that was its basis usually a few years before.

 

Given the freedom of not needing to be worried with safety aspects, fuel consumption , weight, practicality and cost of manufacturing, the concept car stylist can allow his creativity to run wild, and that is why we regularly see some concept cars that look like they suit a different time entirely and obviously will never see the light of day as a production vehicle.

 

Designs often have layouts that break away from traditional vehicle designs, sliding or gullwing doors, strange passenger layouts, abstract shapes and lots of other styling elements that are not to be found in regular production cars.

 

Plainly, concept cars are more or less an imaginative take on that which might be possible in future car styling, and many concept cars try to smudge the lines between what would be expected in the usual vehicle we purchase in the forecourts and concept cars with impossibly out of the question styling or functionality.

 

While the vast majority of concept cars will not get close to production, there are the occasional efforts that give something to what we drive on our streets, and its the thrill of spotting something amazing, that in a different era could be a real option, that keeps both concept car designers, and the viewing public, both absolutely hung up on concept cars.

You Might be Driving “Green” Cars in the Near Future

The global agony because of rising fuel prices brought about concept cars that you might be driving in a few years time. The future cars will be very efficient, clean, and will no longer need petrol.

Most manufacturers are exploring possibilities of building green cars for mass market. Trials runs are being conducted everyday for the road worthiness of concept cars. For now some of these cars are just good for the glitter in the showroom or the drawing board:

The Mazda Nagare

This concept car spreads its gull wing like doors to reveal a spacious interior for four passengers. The Mazda Nagare has exciting sleek design and features beyond the space age. The driver will be sitting in front while three passengers will be comfortable at the back. The manufacturers has never revealed the details about this car but gave a hint that it might run on a hydrogen powered engine.

GM Saab Aero X

At first glance, one will think that this car can fly because of the door less design which opted for a canopy entrance. The Saab Aero X runs on a 400HP twin turbo engine which purely runs on ethanol. The materials used for the body is also very light contributing to its fuel efficiency. Production date has not yet been revealed by GM but car lovers are definitely awaiting its release.

Daihatsu UFE III

This car runs on 203 miles per gallon powered by its 660 cc Atkinson engine and two electric motors. The aerodynamic design of the vehicle even adds to its fuel efficiency. Every car owner will definitely want a car like Daihatsu UFE in terms of saving gas and money.

Ford Airstream

The Ford Airstream maybe the family car of the future. The design pays homage to the classic trailers with the addition of fuel cells that runs for 41 miles given the equivalent of conventional fuel. The Airstream boasts of great interiors and entertainment system which a family will enjoy. Ford has no announcements of its release but the environment can definitely breathe more comfortably with this Ford on the road.

Toyota FT HS

The car runs on a 400Hp engine housed in a very sporty chassis which can be converted from a 2-seater to a 4-seater by retracting the roof. The cockpit instruments are well designed to provide the driver with a perfect view and easy control. The Toyota FT HS is now in production according to the manufacturer.

Honda FCX

This is a very cool car that may be in the production line in the near future. The features are excellent using the most advanced technologies. Biometrics is utilized to adjust the mirrors, steering wheel, and pedals. Controls for climate and audio entertainment are integrated to the steering wheel.

Chevrolet Volt

This car will be in the market by 2010 and it has been getting great reviews attributed to the E-Flex propulsion system that uses a combination of gas and electricity. A single tank of petrol can take the car for 640 miles. According to market speculators, the price of the Chevy Volt will be between 000 and 000.

Concept cars give us a preview of what to expect in the future. Greener cars will definitely help the environment be green again.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell for Cars of the Future

Last March 6-16, 2008, a car convention was held in Geneva Switzerland. Car enthusiasts are mostly concerned in finding out the hottest news in the motor world. The auto show revealed different car concepts from popular car manufacturers all over the world including that of Pininfarina’s Sintesi. The car was designed to discover great ideas and possible solutions for future cars. Man is free to take advantage of technology and this is one way to develop new ideas that can further benefit mankind. The car featured in the auto show was designed to disseminate intelligence. The sources are from various cross-media about security and traffic. The car can continuously dialog with the city, other vehicles, and the road without restraining the autonomy of motorists. The outside appearance of the car is similar to that of today’s sports cars but the aerodynamic exterior makes it very much different. It has a unique concept called ‘liquid packaging’. What caught the attention of the audiences are the four fuel cells. The manufacturer called it Quaddrivium Fuel Cells. The hydrogen cells were positioned near the car’s wheels and each wheel is then powered with 20kw. The car also has a distinctive electric motor, additional battery coming from regenerative breaking and solar panels. The complicated electronic architecture uses modular power which depends in the driving condition. The dashboard is translucent and it displays various pieces of information. The dashboard lights up when an important matter requires the attention of the driver. The headlights of the future car are equipped with radar and tele-cameras to ease information processing. The design of the car is too much for the audience and most of them still think that it was definitely a car for the future. They can’t imagine a sophisticated car like the Sintesi to roam the streets of today. But if you try to analyze it closely, the entire car concept was based on available technologies and so it is not impossible to use the Sintesi today. If ever the various automakers can produce cars of the future that makes use of hydrogen cells, people can expect safer streets and better traffic flow in the coming years. A lot of motoring publications covered the Sintesi, whether on the internet or in local publications. If Pininfarina can create a future vehicle, then so can other automakers like General Motors and BMW. In fact, news has it that these two car manufacturers are already designing a car that makes use of hydrogen cells. BMW is currently testing hydrogen powered vehicles in Germany and General Motors is going to follow. Perhaps, future cars will soon be roaming the streets of rich countries. Well of course, the sophisticated cars will definitely be very expensive and only the rich people can afford it. However, as the years pass and the production of such cars become stable, even the ordinary individuals can afford it. Now, you can just dream that you own a future car. But who knows, perhaps in the near future such cars will be sold in the market already. So start saving money now so that once the future cars are launched for the public, you can afford to buy one. Many years ago, future cars like the Sintesi was simply a dream that is very hard to reach. But now, it is within arms reach. http://fuel-as-hydrogen.blogspot.com

Jules Verne would be right at home with today’s emerging car technology. Although compressed air technology was used in pneumatic locomotives and trams in the late 1800s, widespread commercial use in cars was partially blocked by pressure from the oil industry by the 1930s. This is of course should not come as a surprise to the reader since new information about GM’s electric car of the 1980s has recently surfaced (but that’s another article). With the race on to find eco-friendly fuel alternatives, air cars rate up high on the efficiency vs. clean fuel alternative ratio. Although in the past people have bantered around the idea of an air car, the ultimate clean air car may be closer than you think. 

How does it work?

An electric pump compresses air into a tank at high pressures and stores energy. As the air escapes, it pushes against the pistons, similar to a combustion engine. Compressed air is stored in large cylinders underneath the car, and the only emission into the environment is cold air. In fact, the tailpipe air emissions will be cleaner than the air going in since the air is run through carbon filters to remove dust, dirt and other impurities that could curb engine performance. This makes the car especially attractive to emissions activists, worried over global warming. Not only that, but the energy it does use is minimal compared to other future cars such as hybrids or bioethanol, which employ still controversial energy conversion techniques that can have an adverse effect on the environment and economy. 

Zero Pollution Motors, the U.S. licensee of Luxembourg-based Motor Development International, has an air car scheduled for production in the U.S. in late 2009 or early 2010. To fill up, just stop by your local compressed air service station for a few minutes, or plug into an electrical outlet at home for four hours. At speeds over 35 mph this particular air car uses small amounts of fuel to heat air inside a heating chamber and allows the car to get to an estimated top speed of 96 mph. 
Infrastructure.

No major infrastructure is necessary to support the air car, other than a high pressure recharger around 300 psi. This of course makes the Air Car very attractive since most of our stumbling blocks when it comes to finding an alternative to petroleum are infrastructure changes. Clearly, service stations could change system configurations to accommodate widespread needs for compressed air. While fossil fuels are still needed to generate electricity to recharge, there will still be a net energy savings and reduction in CO2 emissions and pollutants.  Of course as wind and solar energy are used more and more as primary energy generators then the electricity used to run the car’s electric pump will also be from clean sources.

Air cars have a promising future and are one of the major hopes for an easier than expected transition into a new clean fuel era. It is going to be exciting to watch these early air car prototypes transform and grow into viable vehicles for the 21st Century.
