Chowder Ball Z Poop, Parody. Created by someone else, re-uploaded by me. I take no credit for anything. During his time working on SpongeBob SquarePants, Greenblatt had been sketching various characters for his own animation series concept. Greenblatt originally based the premise on the idea of the sorcerer’s apprentice style of story, such as The Sword in the Stone. The plot devices were modified so that the story revolves around a master chef who teaches his young apprentice how to cook. Chowder himself was developed with no specific species in mind, but rather with the intentions of invoking the image of a child’s soft squeeze toy. Some of the inspiration comes from Richard Scarry, with other inspiration from Saturday morning cartoons. Shnitzel was created originally as a personal character design exercise in the late 1990s. Once Greenblatt pitched the concept to Cartoon Network, it was about two years before the series was approved for production with another year in production before the pilot episode aired. Greenblatt estimates he spent about seven years working on Chowder before the show made it to air. Episodes are produced in seasons which consist of 20 half-hour episodes. Each episode is produced with a 30 second puppet sequence that is meant to run over the ending credits. CHEN: In Bangladesh eating on the street is often a health hazard. But thanks to a new initiative street vendors are cleaning up their act. STORY: Statistics show that on average, more than 500 people a day are hospitalized due to contaminated food and water in Bangladesh. But that is changing thanks to a program training the vendors in basic food hygiene. Jarina Begum’s food cart serves breakfast and lunch on this bustling Dhaka road. Her new wooden healthy cart can now provide clean food and water. [Jarina Begum, Food Vendor]: “I was trained by the CAB and now, following their advice, I keep food clean and always sell fresh food. People from all walks of life, from rickshaw pullers to office workers come to my shop because they love my food and my sales have also increased.” Before she barely made enough money to feed her small family. But now more customers are coming to these carts every day. [Prashanta Kumar, Food Cart Customer]: “I work here in an office, so every day I come here to eat my lunch. The food over here is very fresh and good. He is trained to make fresh food.” Food vendors received the carts free of charge from the Consumers Association of Bangladesh. Funding was given by the United Nations and US and European aid agencies. The campaign is expected to boost the number of carts to 300 in a year… and spread over this city of more than 10 million people. It’s good news for those that can only afford to eat on the streets.

BATTLE IS ON FOR THE 2011 ‘CURRY OSCARS’ One hundred Indian restaurants across the country have been shortlisted for an award in Britain’s ‘Curry Oscars’. The winners of the 2011 British Curry Awards will be announced at the Battersea Evolution, London, on Monday 28 November. An amazing ???? restaurants were entered for the awards from a record 68000 public nominations. These have now been whittled down to a shortlist of 100 from which the nine regional winners and the Newcomer of the Year will be announced. Awards organiser Enam Ali MBE said: “This is the seventh year of the British Curry Awards and the standards get higher every year. To reach the shortlist is a tremendous achievement. “Interest in the competition has been greater than ever this year. It just goes to show the tremendous support there is out there for Britain’s favourite food.” However, one leading food writer has expressed concern that a spate of copycat award schemes is threatening to undermine the success of the British Curry Awards. Peter Grove, editor of ethnic food magazine Mood Food, said: “The majority of these new awards that have cropped up are based on nothing. It means they are, at best, completely valueless and, at worst, totally misleading to the public. “Justified recognition by their peers is welcomed by all restaurants and a good indicator for the dining public, but awards certificates of questionable justification only serve to muddy the waters and make people wonder if any awards are …

July 27, 2011 — One Cell One Light Radio with Dr. Hildegarde Staninger, RIET-1 Guest: Aaron Steil, Education Coordinator at Reiman Gardens, Iowa State University Have you ever eaten a daylily right out of your garden? “They kind of taste like buttered lettuce,” says Aaron Steil, Reiman Gardens’ Education Coordinator at the Iowa State University’s 14-acre Reiman Gardens located in Ames, 35 miles north of Des Moines, Iowa. “With roses, pansies, even lilacs, people grow them because they are pretty,” he says. But what many people do not realize is that they have a dual purpose — they are edible. They can brighten up just about any meal and create new taste sensations. “They kind of make a meal look fancy,” says Steil, a horticulturist, who has satisfied his curiosity by partaking of edible flowers. “Most people are very curious but a little reluctant to try them.” Most of us don’t stop to realize that some of the vegetable kingdom will actually flower, too, but we eat them in the bud stage before the flavors change and become more bitter as they open up. Broccoli and cauliflower in the cruciferous family are two such examples, according to Steil. Reiman Gardens is part of Iowa State University and serves as a teaching facility for students in horticulture and landscape architecture.
