Before shopping on Craigslist for the first time, there are some things you should know first. What?
Sellers set their own prices. The fact that sellers can set their own prices is both good and bad. Many Craigslist sellers just want to de-clutter their home. These individuals are likely to have cheap prices or even offer some items for free. On the other hand, there are individuals who use the classified website to make money. They are likely to charge higher prices. To ensure you get the best deal, which is an affordable price for a quality product, price compare and ask lots of questions.
You buy at your own risk. Buying used items online from an individual, not an experienced seller, always has some risk. You can minimize this risk by being aware. Always ask to see pictures of what you are buying and ask lots of questions. Even if you are just buying a new outfit, ask how many times it has been worn or if there are any stains. For larger more expensive purchases, like a used car, ask to see it before agreeing to buy it.
There are scams on Craigslist. These scams are out to get your money. Craigslist.org is designed to connect local buyers and sellers. You can still make an agreement with a seller to have your item shipped through the mail, but it is best if you suggest it first. Craigslist warns right on their website that shipping is usually the sign of a scam. Honestly, if you use your best judgment, you will be fine.
