Today, the game was officially re-announced as simply “Mortal Kombat.” The game will remain polygonal, but will (finally) return to its 2D roots. Mortal Kombat is being developed by the newly renamed NetherRealm Entertainment, which is a snappier moniker than “WB Games Chicago,” the name the team took on after the transition away from Midway, was. Despite all of the name changes, this is still the Chicago-based team led by Ed Boon, one of the creators of the series. Here’s what he had to say in the game’s announcement. Mortal Kombat is scheduled for release in 2011 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

@BlkMagik perhaps…lets just HOPE you’re right, because if you aren’t then i swear i’ll take my circular saw and make some serious massacre in the developers offices…
@Summon256 Perhaps they toned down the trailer so it would be appropriate for everyone.

Damn it gonna be tight as hell. I hope they have weapon mode on it. it would be really sick
Yup I’ll be all over this one when it drops!!!!

Any of the 3D ones (MK4 and on) sucked so much. Glad it going back to side to side fighting. The characters look perfect and it really good fighting. Love everything I’m seeing so far. Glad we got it coming back now. And yes keeping it back to the basics and it working.
i think october
well…they promised game being insanely violent and to tell you honestly judging from this trailer it doesn’t seem so…so lies again ?
I’ve done kung laos fatality at the end once on a different game
wtf weren’t they coming out with a movie too?
Dude Sub Zero would totally whoop Kung Lao. I’m sorry but they should had some one else getting all crouch sawed.
@Secnateb yeah, but when you play the actual game if you punch some one it will be awesum blood rain!
@captainchuck76 cool thx
This is sposed to be the gorriest one yet….. Im just glad to see Reptile
Can’t wait!! This looks awesome, especially glad to see this now that UMK3 on Xbox Live is defunct, nice to have a good replacement to look forward to.
It is about time I saw Johnny Cage and Kung Lao Again!
Finally, Mortal Kombat returns to a 2D format, like street fighter IV. I think this is a step in the right direction for one of my most favorite franchises in video games.
…….
@cacarotote thats because it was a commercial…this MK is said to be the most violent one in the whole franchise
Kudos mr boon. It’s about time u listened to the fans. It took street fighter 4′s success to win u over. Game looks absolutely amazing. Can’t wait.
