SEASON ONE – ‘Inner Child’ (TV Review)

FRINGE – SEASON ONE – ‘Inner Child’
Thank God Fringe is back and while this episode isn’t the best, it sets the stage for better things ahead

OK, I will try and catch everyone up on FRINGE since it has been WAY too freaking long since the last episode aired. Fox should be ashamed since this show was doing so well in the ratings and then they just sh**canned it for AMERICAN IDOL. OK, I realize AI is the most popular show but still give it a spot.

When we last left FRINGE, Olivia (Anna Torv) had just discovered the fact that she may have some special powers of some sort thanks to a test from Jones – who is dying we think due to his teleportation out of prison (although Walter (John Noble) says he is transforming not dying). This is supposedly one of many tests that Olivia will have to take to determine if she was one of the people given a special drug to induce powers of some sort – telepathic, emphatic, telekinesis or whatever.

We also learned that there is a war brewing over the fate of the Earth between inter-dimensional beings that are sharing the same space and time. When they discover one another only one is allowed to survive and a battle is coming to determine who will win. This may or may not be the purpose of The Pattern and why all these crazy experiments are being conducted on the population. If they work on us, they should work on other like-beings, right? Or maybe The Pattern is something else, something we don’t know yet.

We know Loeb (Chance Kelly) also mentioned there was a war coming and that two parties are fighting it out but we don’t what over and what about but this also leads credence to the whole inter-dimensional battle taking place.

So that brings us to the question of whether everything we have seen so far and all the weird sh** going on is related or if just some of it is related or if all of it is. Also, is The Observer one of these inter-dimensional beings? Or just someone that has been experimented on for so many years he is forever changed?

Two things before we go into “Inner Child.” First, did you see the Observer on AI? Second, thank God FRINGE is back!

Inner Child” was an interesting mix of the one-shot FRINGE episodes and the further continuation of the show’s mythology as a small boy is found in a sealed, underground tunnel that was set for demolition. The thing is … the shaft was sealed for more than 70 years. The boy also looks like The Observer in nearly every way except for the fact that he’s small.

Right away, Olivia and the boy have a connection right away. Something that grows even stronger as the boy begins to help Olivia with finding a serial killer. And by doing so he begins to feel and read the mind of Olivia as they discuss what to do with the boy – either place him in a home or send him off with some CIA special division that wants to investigate him. Something that Michaels, one of the operatives of this CIA branch, proclaims “Looks like we have found another one.”

Another what? Another Observer? Another inter-dimensional being? Another bald, pale kid that doesn’t speak? IT has to be another Observer yes? Or another one of his kind.

In any event, a nice way to bring the show back to the air but overall in terms of the episodes we have seen so far not the best of the bunch.

Next week on the other hand, looks like a blowout episode that hopefully will be a lot of fun.
